Overview

The Join In Class classroom solution requires the ‘Join In Teacher’ application to be installed on the teacher’s classroom computer, and the ‘Join in Class’ application to be installed on the students BYOD laptops or the student computers in a Computer Lab environment. The teacher application generates a connection code enabling the student application to connect to the teacher’s application. No network or system configuration is required. Deploying the 'Join In Teacher' application to teachers

Windows:

The ‘Join In Teacher’ application must be installed using the Join In installer which can be downloaded using the following link:

    https://joinin.blob.core.windows.net/joinin-installer/JoinInInstall.exe

The installer will create a desktop shortcut to the Join In Teacher ‘Click Once’ application that installs from a Microsoft Azure server for each teacher using the PC.

  1. Run the installer as administrator.
  2. Select ‘Install Join In for Teacher PC’.
  3. Enter your school license code.
  4. (optional) Enter the computer lab name. You can define computer labs in Join In administration so that students in a computer lab will automatically connect to the computer lab teacher device.
  5. (optional) Elect whether to start Join in on teacher log on.

The installer can also be run silently if you are using deployment software. The JoinInInstall.exe parameters use the following example format where [T] indicates a teacher install, [YOURCODE] is your 8 character license code, [Lab1] (optional) is the predefined name if you are installing in a computer lab and [S] (optional) requests a start on log on:

JoinInInstall.exe T YOURCODE Lab1 S

Future updates: Once installed Join In will automatically check for updates when run and install them if required.

Deploying the ‘Join In Class’ application to student BYOD personal computers

Mac:

  • The ‘Join In Class’ application for Mac is available for free from the Apple App Store. Students can search for ‘Join In Class’ in the App Store and install the application on their Mac BYOD laptop.

Chromebook:

  • The ‘Join In Class’ application for Chromebook is available for free from the Chrome Web Store. Students can search for ‘Join In Class’ in the Web Store under ‘Apps’ and install the application on their Chromebook BYOD laptop.

Windows:

The ‘Join In Class’ application for Windows is available for free from the Microsoft Store. Students can search for ‘Join In Class’ in the store and install the application on their Windows BYOD laptop.

Deploying the Windows ‘Join In Student’ application to a computer room environment

The windows ‘Join In Student’ application has been provided for use on school devices typically in a computer room environment. The administrator has the option to install the software with a predefined computer lab name enabling students to connect automatically to the teacher in the same room. Lab names are defined in the Join In Teacher app by selecting the ‘Administration’ button.

The app must be installed using the Join In installer which can be downloaded using the following link:

The installer will create a desktop shortcut to the Join In Student ‘Click Once’ application that installs from a Microsoft Azure server for each student using the PC.

If you need to add, change or remove the Lab name after installation then run the installer again and either add a new lab name or leave blank to remove.
